I read this quote the other day.
“I am under no obligation to make sense to you”
And my first thought was, “well that’s rude!”. In fact, the shock of its sheer and utter hutzpah stuck with me for a bit.
Which was a good thing, apparently. Especially after a few less-than-enviable encounters on the world wide web. In this social-media age, everyone seems to want you to justify your actions just because you are out there publicly. Even worse, they come to expect something from you. And don’t you dare vary from their expectations!
I, for one, am tired of having to make sense to other people. Some days I simply wake up with a different perspective, desiring a different direction. There’s no real hidden meaning that anyone needs to read into that. I just don’t do well with repetition. Period.
But repeating myself I had been. All because of having to make sense to a few vocal people, and their expectations of what I should be wearing…eating…posting. I grew weary of it, so I stopped. My creativity was dying a little inside every single time I tried to write or create something.
I was feeling miserable that I was operating out of expectation instead of respecting that my own creative path was a worthy one. I suddenly knew I had to get off the road everyone else thought I should be on.

So just like that, I changed.
I did a complete 180 and decided to start posting for myself again. No explanations. Zero effs given about what others want me to portray. I decided I was going to stay true to me. Stay on my path and feed my soul. There’s joy in that damn it!
Knowing that now, the joy that it brings me every day, I encourage you to stay true to your journey. Don’t let other people’s expectations stuff your soul down so deep that it cannot shine through. It’s not rude or selfish of you to follow your own version of your vision, it’s self-respecting.
For me, maybe this new road will work out. Maybe it won’t. But I’ll tell you, I think this could be the best adventure ever!
